This morning British company LoveFilm has announced that Amazon will acquire its remaining shares (Update – December 2022: The startup seems to be no longer in business and we therefore deactivated the link).
Founded in 2002, LoveFilm offers its users DVD-by-mail services, to watch films in the comfort of their own home. It also offers game playing services, with both DVDs and games being able to be sent back by post. In exchange for a monthly fee, LoveFilm users can choose from a library of over 70,000 titles.
At the moment, Amazon owns 42% of LoveFilm. The specific terms of the deal have not been disclosed as of yet, and it’s currently not clear whether Amazon will rebrand the service or not.
