E-commerce giant Amazon, which already owns 42% of LoveFilm, seems to be interested in acquiring the film-rental company, which is based in London (Update – December 2022: LoveFilm seems to be no longer in business and we therefore deactivated the link).
Founded in 2002, this British company offers its users DVD-by-mail services, to watch films in the comfort of their own home, conveniently sending the DVD back once they have watched it. It also offers game playing services for all the gamers out there.
Similar to borrowing a book from a library, this service has time limits for rental, and users can borrow multiple films at a time. In exchange for a monthly fee, the LoveFilm-users can access a library of over 70,000 titles.
According to the Sunday Times of London, the deal would value LoveFilm at $312 million. The Netflix-kind-of-service was founded in 2003.
