Meet MedicSen: The winner of our big pitch competition held during this year’s EU-Startups Summit

One of the highlights during our EU-Startups Summit this week in Barcelona was clearly our big pitch competition. In total we received and reviewed 507 applications from startups from across Europe. 15 of them made it to the finals and pitched in front of an expert jury and our 680 attendees. At this year’s pitch competition we had a great mixture of exciting business models and ambitious startup teams out of 6 different European countries!

In the end, it was the Madrid-based MedTech startup MedicSen which won the competition and took home the prize package worth €68,000.

Pitch-Competition-PrizeThe package includes prizes/credits from cloud technology provider Aruba Cloud (value: €50,000), social media monitoring tool Senti. One(value: €9,000), the project management & invoicing solution Teamleader (value €3,300), Spaces. coworking membership for 2 people / 1 year (value: €3,600), the design marketplace 99designs (value: €1,500) and our Job Board (value: €600).

MedicSen is developing a non-invasive artificial pancreas for diabetes, based on a learning algorithm, a chatbot app and a needle-free insulin smartpatch. The Madrid-based startup also gives therapy advice. MedicSen is offering its solution on a B2C subscription model, but they are also fostering B2B agreements with the MedicSen app as information channel beyond the pill.

Long story short: MedicSen is tackling a huge market with a promising technology/solution. The company’s CEO Eduardo W. Jorgensen delivered a very good pitch and not only conviced out our expert jury, but also our big crowd of startup enthusiasts who also had the opportunity to share their opinion in real-time via a mobile optimized voting app.

The expert jury included high profile investors like Guillem Sagué (Nauta Capital), Sia Houchangnia (seedcamp), and Dominic Wilhelm (e.ventures). In addition, we’ll had many more venture capitalists, business angels and startup accelerators among our attendees.

According to the jury, it was a tough decision, since there were many other strong startups that took part in the competition. The German startup Statice made it to the 2nd place and on the 3rd place landed the Valencian Startup Landbot.

Once again: Congratulations to the MedicSen team and to the startup’s CEO Eduardo W. Jorgensen who represented the company on stage! And last but not least: A big “Thank You” to all participants of this year’s EU-Startups Summit. You were awesome! 🙂
