Rising North: New €1.5 million fund to boost Nordic startup ecosystems

The Nordic Council just launched a new €1.5 million fund to support the internationalisation of the Nordic startup ecosystem. The launch has been announced today in New York shortly before the Nordic startup delegation was ringing the Nasdaq bell.

The mission of Rising North is to accelerate and enable the internationalization of Nordic startups and entrepreneurs and to form links between existing ecosystems. The new fund will support 5-15 selected projects each year. The maximum funding per accelerated project will be €50,000.

Helga Valfells, CEO of NSA Ventures and Board Member at Rising North stated: “In the Nordics, we work hard, we are extremely loyal to our company or our cause and we love technology. It is therefore no surprise that the Nordics have produced a string of very successful technology companies. During the last five years, the Nordics, which account for only 4% of the European population, have produced over 25% of all European exits,”

The Rising North is a 3 year project which is part of the priority project programme for the Finnish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers 2016 and aligns with the Nordic branding strategy.
