CLANED, a new learning platform from Finland, has raised €4 million and is still in stealth mode

CLANED, a Helsinki-based education technology startup which is developing a personal learning platform, is still in stealth mode but has raised a total of €4 million with the latest seed investment of €1.3 million closed a few weeks ago. The investors of Claned include business angels and family funds from Finland, India and Singapore.

Before they started CLANED, the founders were able to do 6 exits and raised a total of roughly €150 million in venture capital.

The core idea behind CLANED is to combine artificial and pedagogic intelligence with the digital strengths and the excellent reputation of Finland as educational leader. The subscription-based learning environment is currently available for desktop only. The CLANED application will be launched in late spring.

Mervi Palander, the CEO of Claned, stated: “We have seen strong interest in the product since we started selling CLANED in September 2015 and feedback from the customers is very encouraging. The funding will help us expand sales operations as well as boost product development and introduce new features and products on continuous basis,”

CLANED describes itself as the “sports-tracker of learning”. Their product is a personal learning environment powered by artificial and pedagogic intelligence. The platform’s algorithms process all the events and data resulting in a comprehensive insight analysis that shows student’s study performance as well as learning orientation and characteristics including motivation, emotion and stress levels.

Although the CLANED platform hasn’t officially been launched yet, the Helsinki-based company is already seelling to customers in 10 different countries, and their goal is to re-define learning in a global scale.

Mervi Palander said: “We have a globally unique learning product, that helps an individual to discover a personal way of learning and maximize results – and we foresee strong demand for it over the coming years,”.

  1. I haven’t heard of CLANED yet, but now they have got my interest. I think it’s genius to combine artificial and pedagogic intelligence with the digital strengths and the excellent reputation of Finland as educational leader. I have a close friend who is from Finland, so I know that they have a great reputation in education. Thanks for sharing this.
