Helsinki-based social messaging app Jongla raises €1.4 million

Jongla, the free and entertaining instant messaging app aimed at the youth market, today announced having closed a further round of funding. This €1.4 million round of investment from Oy Ingman Finance Ab and a prominent group of private angel investors takes the overall investment in the Finnish messaging startup to €3.9 million.

This latest investment will allow Jongla to further develop its products and roll out its growth strategy, including international expansion. Jongla sees markets such as Asia and Europe as key targets for growth due to the rising popularity of instant messaging apps, especially among young people.

Where Jongla aims to differentiate itself from other instant messaging apps is through personalisation and the ability to add interactive stickers and animations to messages. Founded in 2009, Jongla has been selected as a Winner of ‘Red Herring’s Top 100 Europe award 2013’, a prestigious list honouring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the European business region.
