Greek startup Taxibeat secures $2 million and expands into Mexico

Taxibeat, the Athens-based taxi app, has just secured $ 2 million from unnamed “high-net worth individuals” (Update – April 2023: The startup seems to be no longer in business under this website, and we therefore deactivated the original link).

The young company, which aims to to revolutionise the taxi industry in cities around the world, today also announced the launch of its taxi app in Mexico, with more than +400 drivers.

This recent launch in Mexico comes exactly one year after Taxibeat’s first international expansion, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July 2012. A year after the Rio launch, Taxibeat already seems to be the #1 taxi hailing app in Rio, in terms of volume of rides and revenues.

By the way: To learn more about Taxibeat, check out the interview we did with their CEO Nick Drandakis back in 2011.
