Hungry for money: German food delivery scaleup Delivery Hero raises additional €40 million

Another round of funding of around €40 million (approx. $49 million) from Kite Ventures, Kreos Capital and other existing investors has pushed Delivery Hero‘s total raised capital to €80 million. This makes the 21-month-old online food delivery company one of the best financed European internet startups in the last 12 months.

According to Delivery Hero, the young company is already leading the online food ordering market in five countries. The latest financing round puts the Berlin-based startup in a strong position to achieve its goal to become the global category leader in online food ordering.

Delivery Hero’s Co-CEO Fabian Siegel stated: “The current round provides us sufficient capital to fuel our aggressive international growth plans.”

In addition to Delivery Hero’s latest funding round, the company also just announced that its orders increased by 84% in the first quarter of 2012, with an estimated annual marketplace revenue of more than €250 million. This probably makes Delivery Hero one of the fastest growing internet marketplaces worldwide.

The Delivery Hero group are operating in Germany, UK, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Australia, Mexico, South Korea and China. The young company now has more than 400 employees around the world, the majority working from its headquarters in Berlin.
