“Why join the navy if you can be a pirate”?

This 80’s Steve Jobs quote is the Startup Pirates motto (Update – February 2023: The startup seems to be no longer in business under this website and we therefore deactivated the link). We are pretty aware of all the hurdles and traps of being an entrepreneur, and so is this crew of five pirates, who have combined the immersion-event-oriented spirit of Startup Weekend and the mentor and training focus of Startup Bootcamp. The result? A one week learning, doing and having fun experience for entrepreneurs, maybe near you.

The crew wants to bring together entrepreneurs, change makers and young wannabe entrepreneurs to inspire, influence, learn from each other, and work together to develop business ideas and to launch new startups. In eight days, they bring together over 30 participants for something like 10 workshops, 15 working sessions and a few mentor meetings, entrepreneur talks and other activities. The first event took place in Porto last summer, and they’re back this September. Meanwhile, they’ve been in Lisbon and they’re going to Africa – first to Algiers in June and then to Cape Town in November. Europe is on their way too, with Bratislava in August, followed by Porto, Lisboa, São João da Madeira and Zaragoza in September. Not bad for a first year.

We like the mood and the look, so we’ll tell you about the feel later on. May the sponsors be with them, the startup scene justifies the effort!
